What are the characteristics of a French Bulldog?

French Bulldogs are known for their alert but typical quiet demenor, fun loving behavior, and low maintenance lifestyle.  With their minimalistic needs in the way of space and attention, it’s no wonder what makes them one of the ideal pets for a number of people living in urban environments.

Recommended phenotype & genetic testing to be done by breeders

  1. Hips – A evaluation from the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) or from PennHIP
  2. Eyes – Eye Examination by an American College of Veterinary Ophthalmology (ACVO) Ophthalmologist
  3. Patellar Luxation – A evaluation from the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA)
  4. Heart (One of the following) – Advanced Cardiac Exam
  5. Autoimmune Thyroiditis (Optional) – A evaluation from an (OFA) lab on the approved lab list 
  6. Elbows (Optional) – A evaluation from the (OFA)
  7. Tracheal Hypoplasia (Optional) – A radiographic evaluation from the (OFA)

Trainability  –  Average

Average Life Span  –  10-12 years

Energy Level  –  Average

Attention Needs  –  Medium

Shedding  –  Above Average

Average weight  –  Below 28 lbs
